Arcelor Mittal commissions revamping of gas mixing station for rail mill reheating furnace
Summary
New nitrogen injection system will permit to operate reheating furnace with a blend of coke oven gas and nitrogen thus avoiding downtimes when the blast furnace gas is unavailable.
Exploitation of lean gases is an extremely profitable practice since it abates the operative costs and reduces the carbon emissions generated by flaring. One of the operative difficulties is related to the inconstant flow and availability of lean gases that may cause unplanned production stoppages. The new nitrogen injection system supplied by SMS group will permit to operation of the furnace with a blend of COG and nitrogen thus avoiding downtimes when the BFG is unavailable.
The modernization is planned to be completed in spring 2024.
This is another step forward in the long-lasting relationship between SMS group and Arcelor Mittal Asturias.
