The goal of energy-efficient production with maximum process-oriented power supply performance motivated Ansteel to cooperate with SMS group to replace the conventional thyristor system with switch-mode power supply units based on advanced IGBT (insulated-gate bipolar transistor) technology. The new forward-looking IGBT technology will help the customer achieve more sustainable production, while at the same time significantly improving cleaning results in the cleaning section of the continuous annealing line.
X-Pact® High Current represents an innovative, technically and economically outstanding solution that boasts high energy efficiency levels (more than 94 percent) over the entire working range. Furthermore, the switch-mode rectifiers display significantly better performance (ripple, cos phi, control accuracy, etc.). The compact design and modularization of the system results in energy/CO2 savings of over 40 percent and reduces installation, commissioning and maintenance costs. In the event of a failure of modules or towers, other modules take over automatically, which significantly increases availability compared to the previous systems that are based on individual towers.
The new design makes the system ideal for new plant installations, upgrades or replacement investments, and is world-class when it comes to meeting customer’s goals for saving energy, reducing CO2 emissions, and increasing production efficiency.
