Are you already studying or planning to study engineering or economics? Then you should seize the opportunity to get to know the world of work up-close. We offer a wide range of internships, from basic and specialist internships to individually agreed content and periods. Furthermore, we supervise and support you when working on bachelor’s and master’s theses and completing interesting mechanical and plant engineering assignments. Become part of our team before you graduate and gain valuable experience, some of which is at international level.
Student support
If you are studying metallurgy, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, business administration, or industrial engineering – and are among the so-called high potentials here – we should get to know one another better. That’s because SMS group gives you the opportunity to get monthly financial support with a grant. In addition, you will receive professional and personal supervision from our study supervisor as part of our student support.
Trainees
Our SMS group trainee program is particularly intended to promote selected junior employees and prepare them for their future roles within the company. The one-year trainee program is individually tailored to all participants, depending on their future roles and previous knowledge.
Working students
Students of metallurgy, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, business administration, computer science, or industrial engineering can gain practical experience with us during their studies. The weekly working hours will be agreed individually with the student.

You have the opportunity to agree periods with us on an individual basis. The following types of internships are available:
- Basic internship: We offer a set period of eight weeks in the field of mechanical engineering at our training workshops in Hilchenbach and Mönchengladbach.
- Mandatory internship: It all depends here on the duration set out in your study regulations.
- Voluntary internship: There is a maximum period of three months for enrolled students. The voluntary internship can also be combined with the mandatory internship.
